SME Policy

99.9% out of the more than 3 million enterprises of the construction sector are micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises and crafts. Due to their size, they often have fewer capacities to cope with market challenges and thus need particular support to reach their full economic potential. In order to ensure this, Rabboo Tech works closely together with SMEunited and Small Business Standards to further support the development of policy measures focusing on SMEs and crafts at the European level.

Digitalisation

Digital solutions in construction have great potential to increase productivity, reduce construction costs, alleviate burdensome and physical tasks, improve the data collection and analysis of energy efficiency performances, and lower life-cycle costs of buildings. However, digital tools, such as BIM, will only be adopted across the whole value chain if they are affordable, easy to access, and constitute a real added value to construction SMEs and crafts.

Given their limited size and lack of expertise, SMEs need support from large contractors, architects, manufacturers, and other actors to embrace digitalisation. Therefore, Rabboo Tech collaborates intensively with all construction actors to enable a successful and inclusive digital transformation of the construction sector and promotes the principles of the industry. Moreover, Rabboo Tech participates in EU-funded projects that aim to develop easy-to-use digital tools for construction SMEs and coordinates the SBS strategic approach on BIM to ensure that digital construction standards meet SMEs’ needs.

Construction is a complex sector that includes a wide range of different crafts and trades. Therefore, it is important to ensure a functioning and fair labour market, high health and safety levels on construction sites, as well as vocational education and training that prepares the sector for future skills needs and attracts new talents

Energy & Environment

The construction sector plays a significant role in the EU’s energy, climate, and waste policy due to its ability to increase the sustainability of our building stock by reducing its energy and resource consumption. In addition to this, the construction sector is progressively engaging in increasing the use of recycled and reused materials.

Rabboo Tech works on ensuring a forward-looking but realistic energy and environmental policy that supports both the fostering of the sector and the sustainability ambitions of the European Union.

Economy

The construction sector adds around 9% to the GDP of the European Union and directly employs a workforce of 18 million people. 99.9% of the sector is made up of SMEs that are crucial for the European economy and its ambition to reach economic, social, environmental, and energy targets. While the hard and good work of construction SMEs and crafts can play a crucial role in helping the European Union respond to its challenges, Rabboo Tech works on ensuring a fair and deeper internal market that enables construction SMEs and craftsmen to prosper.

Standardisation

Standardisation is unavoidable for all enterprises that want to access the Internal Market with the CE marking.

Construction is one of the most affected sectors in the standards-making process. Around 600 harmonised standards and 1500 test method standards pertain to construction products. Rabboo Tech is therefore very active in this field in cooperation with Small Business Standards, the association representing SMEs in the standard-making process.
